Why volunteer?

It takes nearly one thousand volunteers to host the largest cycling festival in North America over four  days each April as the Laguna Seca Raceway is transformed from sports cars to a celebration of all  things cycling. Non-profit groups from the tri-County area provide volunteers and in return receive a  financial grant based on the hours contributed and jobs performed. Financial grants range from $250 - $10,000 and on average we award a total of $75,000 to our non-profit partners in appreciation of their support. Volunteers receive lunch on the day they volunteer, an event t-shirt, and a free 4-day event  pass.

How can I get my organization involved?

Each non-profit organization designates a team captain to be the point of contact for their volunteers.  We provide the team captain with a link to our Volunteer Local online sign-up platform which they can  share to make it easy for their volunteers to sign-up for a shift, enter their t-shirt size, and sign the  event waiver. The Sea Otter Classic Foundation, a non-profit organization created by the Sea Otter  Classic, coordinates all volunteer activity for the event. Team captains are welcome to pick-up their  volunteer t-shirts and parking passes in advance, or volunteers can pick them up before their shift. We  host an informational Zoom meeting with Team Captains two weeks before the event to provide a  comprehensive overview, review logistics, and answer questions.

What kind of volunteer jobs do you need help with?

The Sea Otter Classic hosts events ranging from Road Racing to Cross Country Mountain Bike, Downhill,  an e-Bike race, Gran Fondo tours, and in 2022 the first ever Fuego 100K mountain bike race which will  attract the top 20 professional men and women riders from around the US. Plus, the festival features  1,000 exhibitors from throughout the cycling and outdoor industries. Volunteers are needed help with  registration, the Kids’ Ride Zone, to serve as course marshals, support finish line hospitality, staff a bike  valet and information booths, and much more.

Where Do Volunteers Check-in on the Day of their Shift?

We provide a dedicated volunteer parking area at the bottom of Wolf Hill. If you haven’t picked up  your parking pass in advance, let the parking staff know you are a volunteer as you drive in. Once  parked it’s a short walk to the Volunteer Tent located in front of the Registration Building. The Sea  Otter Classic website has all the event info and a map you can refer to.
