Life Time Sea Otter Classic

Powered by Volunteers, Investing in Community
Every spring, the Life Time Sea Otter Classic transforms Monterey County into the world’s cycling capital, drawing over 9,000 athletes and 74,000 fans. The four-day celebration of cycling features racing, recreational rides, and the chance to demo the latest gear from more than 1,000 brands. The event generates nearly $72 million in economic activity for the Monterey Bay region — strengthening local businesses, supporting tourism, and creating seasonal jobs.

The Sea Otter Classic Foundation makes this impact possible. Our dedicated volunteers are the backbone of the event, ensuring its success year after year. In turn, the Foundation channels proceeds back into the community — awarding nearly $90,000 annually to local and regional non-profit partners. These grants support youth cycling, outdoor recreation, education, and community well-being, multiplying the reach of every volunteer hour. In 2025, the 1,100 Sea Otter Classic Foundation volunteers donated 6,000 hours of support!  It is an event and mission so successful that it has now spread to Europe and Australia.
