What We Do

Supporting Well-Being. Fostering Community.

Sea Otter Classic Foundation connects people and organizations through cycling, sports, recreation, and volunteerism.

Through education, direct programs, community partnerships, volunteer opportunities, and charitable support, we help people participate, contribute, and connect. Sometimes that means developing programs of our own; other times, it means supporting existing efforts, connecting people and organizations, or helping valuable community work reach more people.

Our Work

Youth Education & Participation

We introduce young people to cycling through education, skills development, and opportunities to participate.

Each year, we introduce thousands of Monterey County elementary students to bike safety, riding skills, and the benefits of cycling through our sponsored bike skills school assemblies. We hope these experiences inspire young riders to see bicycling—in all its forms—as part of an active, healthy lifestyle.

Supporting Veterans

Through our E-Bikes for Veterans program and partnership with the Veterans Transition Center of California, SOCF provides e-bikes to veterans working toward greater stability and independence.

An e-bike can provide practical transportation while also creating opportunities for recreation, connection, confidence, and greater mobility. The program reflects our belief that cycling and recreation can support well-being in many different ways.

Volunteerism & Community Partnerships

Volunteerism is one of the Foundation’s largest areas of community impact.

SOCF manages the volunteer program for the Life Time Sea Otter Classic, connecting more than a thousand volunteers each year with opportunities to contribute to one of the world’s largest cycling events.

Many volunteers participate through local nonprofit, military, school, and community organizations. Their volunteer service can generate charitable support for participating organizations, extending the impact of the event well beyond its four days.

We also work with community partners to connect people with opportunities to volunteer, participate, share expertise, and support organizations doing meaningful work.

Our Roots & Our Mission

Founded in 2012, Sea Otter Classic Foundation grew from the community surrounding the Sea Otter Classic. Since our founding, our mission has focused on promoting healthy, active living for children and supporting recovering veterans through sports and recreation. As the Foundation has grown, so has our understanding of how we can advance that purpose—through volunteerism, education, community partnerships, and charitable support.

Our roots are in Sea Otter, but our work extends beyond the event. Today, SOCF is an independent, Monterey, California-based 501(c)(3) public charity that partners with Life Time to support the Sea Otter Classic, including management of the event’s volunteer program.

Get Involved

Participate. Volunteer. Give. Engage.

There are many ways to be part of the work.

Whether you participate, volunteer, give, or simply help make a connection, your involvement can help support well-being and foster community.
